  • Why are Shades of Green fertilisers different from any others?

Shades of Green fertilisers are unique in the marketplace because they deliver a wide array of minerals into the soil in a balanced ratio. They contain lime, dolomite and naturally blended ores to deliver a comprehensive array of over 60 essential minerals into the soil profile, together with humates, silicates and zeolites which all contribute to building the holding capacity of the soil, as well as nourishing soil microbial life. All of these things are essential to build balanced, sustainable soils that can be farmed or gardened year after year.

Our fertilisers are also are low-leaching and build up the nutrient-holding capacity of the soil so your plants receive constant feeding from our comprehensive, balanced formulas. We are the first to be awarded the Fertilise Wise endorsement (SERCUL) for all these reasons.

  • What does low-leaching mean?

Nutrients from low-leaching fertilisers stay in the soil where your plants can use them. Conventional fertilisers allow nutrients to wash away easily through the soil, eventually causing problems for our waterways. Your plants, your pocket, and the environment all suffer when fertilisers leach.

  • Why is it better to have multi-minerals in a fertiliser? Don't I just need to add nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium?

Like us, animals and plants need complex, balanced mineralisation for good health. Adding minerals to the soil makes health-giving nutrients more available to plants. When those plants are used as food, they’re more nutritious for people and animals - and so the whole food chain benefits when soils are mineralised.

  • What is soil sweetening?

Soil sweetening means balancing calcium and magnesium components of soil to achieve ideal pH for healthy soil microbes to flourish. Grasses and foods grown on soils with a healthy mineral balance and ideal pH are far more palatable and “sweet” to animals and people. In Western Australia, 85% of soils need sweetening.

  • When Should I Fertilise My Lawn or Garden?

Nutrients can be delivered into the soil at any time, but to obtain the maximum benefit, application should be timed with the seasons. This is because the plant itself needs to be actively metabolising in order to take up nutrients effciently from the soil.
